I'm happy to report that I've found evidence of birds feeding from my new bird feeder, I just haven't caught them in the act yet. I got the idea after recently joining our local wildlife trust and watching BBC's autumnwatch, so all I'm waiting for now is catching a nice photo!
I found a really nice galvanised bird seed feeder in our local garden centre which was only £7, so I've currently got it mounted on a small bracket on the back of the house, in view of the living room window, and out of reach of all but the most athletic of cats. I've currently just got the one feeder with some mixed seeds in there, but if it proves a hot attraction, I may invest in some more feeders and tables, etc. to keep the local population well fed through the winter.
I've found some really nice stuff at Vine House Farm and The RSPB Shop so I might just give in completely (I'm too lazy / clueless about flowers and weeding) and give the garden over to nature.
